FAME ...
AND THE FAMOUS

Over the years, members of the Cheriton Court and Committee have met many famous people, and have themselves appeared on TV or been interviewed on local radio.  Here is a pictorial record of just some of those moments...

The Court were interviewed on Radio Kent at the Shepway Airshow 2003 ... but they still found time to meet Vicky Alcock from Bad Girls. Ben had already been interviewed on Radio Kent at the Deal Xmas Lights in 1999. Siobhan and Mary were interviewed on French TV during the Miss EuroRegion contest in 2004. A TV appearance on Meridian Tonight at Hastings carnival 2003. Shiv and Karol were filmed for the Meridian News at the launch of the Blackfish Academy's Fight Choreography/Stage Combat classes. Another slice of televisual fame was at the FAC Christmas Cavalcade of Cars 2003. Not only did Ben meet KM-FM's Richard Adams at Dover carnival he also got to be a news item on the KM-FM website afterwards!

Both Karol and Ben were interviewed on Radio Kent, while, along with Andy, they were filmed for Newsroom Southeast at the Dalek Day in the Dover Discovery Centre in May. Ben and Karol were interviewed about Blackfish and Doctor Who (natch) and during the Doctor Who event Ben won a box set of Doctor Who DVDs. All three also got to meet Doctor Who scriptwriter Gareth Roberts (as well as a Dalek!) at the event. He chatted about the programme, writing, signed autographs, and was the quiz-master in the contest Ben won. When Siobhan won the UK Model of the Year title she was interviewed on BBC Radio Kent and filmed for BBC South East Today.

Karol appeared on the BBC's Southeast Today and 10.25pm news bulletin, after she was selected to be one of the team of Making It. It was while she was at the Tunbridge Wells studio she met presenters Beverley Thompson, Geoff Clarke, Ceri Thompson, Rob Smith and Polly Evans, as well as the Director General of the BBC, Mark Thompson. Following her stint on the Making It project, Karol was asked to take part in Bargain Hunt at the Detling Antiques Fayre which involved a gruelling 8-hour filming day for the programme to be shown in the Autumn. Karol got to meet Bargain Hunt presenter Tim Wonnacott and celebrity antiques expert James Braxton, who helped Karol and her teammate, Rebecca, to select a 60's home bar, a Dartmouthware gurgle fish, and a Tonbridgeware stamp box. Unfortunately at the auction at the Canterbury Auction Rooms on 1 July, Karol's tema made a loss of £142, losing out to their opponents by just £8! The day finished on a pleasant note when the wrap scene was filmed on the lawns of Canterbury Cathedral. The programme was aired on 18 October 2006.

And off camera, the Court met two Meridian presenters- Sue Kinnear (and daughter!) at Lydden Fair 2003 and David Forsdyke at the Broadstairs selection 2004. Ben and Danielle met Julie Maddox from Radio Kent at their Children's University 'graduation' ceremony. The Court met Frazer Hines at a Charity Cricket match at Bromley during 2004 (Ben knew him from Doctor Who, and the girls knew him from Emmerdale) ... then they persuaded Rudolph Walker (from EastEnders) to buy some raffle tickets ... before having lunch with Paul Davis from Arsenal FC ... while Siobhan (right, with the Kent Court) met John Hurst ... and they all posed for a picture with all the stars and the other courts. Danielle met gold medal Olympic athelete, Dame Kelly Holmes, when she was opeing a new wing at Danielle's school, Sandwich Technology College.

Paul O'Grady made us all laugh at the Romney Marsh Buddy Challenge 2003, and now we're on his Christmas card list Ben met Jacqueline Wilson at the Shepway Literature festival in 2003 ... then met Jeremy Strong in 2004 (and now Ben is on his Christmas card list!) ... it was also where Karol met Martin Jarvis ... and in 2005 Ben met Oscar-nominated, prize-winning script-writer (Gladiator, First Knight and Shadowlands) and author, William Nicholson. Ben met cartoonist Dave Chisholm and children's illustrator and artist Roger Nobbs when he took part in the Canterbury Festival Big Draw in 2003. Ben also met children's poet John 'Phoebe Flood' Whitworth at the Split the Lark Poetry Festival in 2003 and 2004, and Wendy French in 2005. He also helped out Jim Bywater and Francis Kelly during the Dover Art and Soul Festival in 2001.

The Court met Martine McCutcheon at the Deal Christmas Lights in 1996 ...but Ben wasn't too impressed!  He was far happier meeting Mr Blobby!! Strange boy! Lewis Collins didn't know what had hit him when Karol met him at Deal in 1997... but he was pleased to meet the court. Mick got Robert Powell's autograph at Deal in 1995 ... and Karol asked Toyah Wilcox for hers in 1999. Viv and Michelle met The Fun House twins at Canterbury's selection dance in 1998. The Court met Norman Pace at Chislehurst carnival in 2000 and he voted them Best Court. Along with other Kent Courts, the girls met Folkestone Invicta's star player, Andy Morris at an Air Ambulance fund-raiser in 2001.

Andy met Leslie 'Virgin Soldiers' Thomas when he helped him to research his latest novel, 'Dover Beach'. Karol and Kathryn met Seb Coe at the opening of C&A in Canterbury. Then the following weekend Karol was interviewed by Miss World compere, Peter Marshal when she won Miss Sealink. Karol met Nick Staverson (Harry in the TVS Saturday morning show No. 73) at Maidstone carnival in 1989. Karol met June Brown (EastEnders' Dot Cotton) lots of times - she went to college with June's son, Bill! And Karol bumped into Jimmy Tarbuck at Folkestone Harbour as he was making his way back from a golfing trip. Karol, Ben (and Andy) met weatherman Ian McCaskill at the opening of the Lower Leas Coastal Park in May 1999. Ben met Team Plunderbird from Robot Wars at the KM Motorshow in 2002. During the opening of the Foulmead Country Park Karol, Andy and Ben chatted with SIr David Bellamy. And Ben and Andy both had a life-long wish fulfilled when they met 2/3rds of the Goodies - Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden at the Marlowe Theatre on Red Nose Day 2007.

While Tasha was in the Marlowe Panto at Christmas she got to work alongside Sheila Ferguson (Three Degrees), Ryan Maloney(Neighbours), and Dave Lee. Karol also got to work with Dave Lee (as Baloo) at the Marlowe along with Granville Saxton (Bagheera) and future stars Glen Joseph (Sheer Khan) and Chris Nelson (King Louie) when she took part in the Marlowe's 2007 Easter production, The Jungle Book. Karol and Siobhan worked with Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana, Bill Wallis, and Kristin Scott-Thomas on The Other Boleyn Girl movie, filmed at Penshurst Place and Dover Castle during November and December 2006.
